How it all started
The moment it truly clicked
There are places on Earth that make you feel something you’ve been missing for far too long. For me, that place was Aruba. Not because it is more beautiful than the Netherlands, but because it made me pause.
I stayed there for seven weeks as a house sitter in a remote yet beautiful neighbourhood. I had to organise everything myself: transportation, outings and my daily choices. I discovered how free it feels to shape your own days. I sought out the most beautiful routes and soon knew exactly where I could park easily and freely in Oranjestad.
It all turned out not to be difficult at all, as long as you allow yourself the time and space. Those weeks gave me a deep sense of happiness. Every day felt like living, rather than surviving. The simplicity of the island, the nature, the calm — it brought me back to what truly feels right for me. I realised that I no longer wanted to return to the Netherlands. For years, I had allowed my life there to be shaped by rules, routines and obligations, and I was ready to let those go.
There, on a simple beach, the adventurer within me was born. That was the moment everything shifted.
From insight to direction
Back in the Netherlands, I knew for sure: I want to leave. Not to escape, but to choose.
Choosing calm. Choosing sun. Choosing simplicity. Choosing freedom. And above all: choosing myself.
What Aruba showed me settled into an inner decision. I didn’t yet know exactly where or how, but the switch had been flipped. From that moment on, everything in my life slowly began to turn towards emigration.
In the months that followed, I took decisive steps. From selling my house to tax planning. From decluttering to building this website. Everything focused on one vision: living optimally, freedom and happiness.
